First Weighted Workout of 2019!!!

I haven’t been too in depth about my chronic pain with you folks, but let’s just say my weighted workouts have been fewer and farther in between as 2018 progressed. It seemed that no amount of “rest” or “recovery” time helped. To clarify: my body rarely hurts when I’m active, and in fact I feel pretty good for 30 minutes to a couple hours afterwards, but as the months dragged on, my bad pain days became a lot more common than my feel-good days, which makes finding the motivation to lift weights a bit of a challenge.

However, I’m pleased to say that I did my very first weighted workout of the year – 10 days in, not too bad if you ask me! Down below I’ve got my delt before pic and the exercises that I did. Hopefully I can build my delt muscles and lose some fat.

“Before” pic:

Exercises (sets)x(reps):

3×6 Double Forward Dumbbell Raise – 10 lbs
3×8 Bent Dumbbell Rows (alternating b/n wife and closed rows) – 20 lbs
3×8 Lateral Raise – 20 lbs
3×6 Shoulder Press – 20 lbs
3×5 Back Fly – 20 lbs
1 minutes of Prayer Pumps

There may be days, or weeks even, where I won’t be able to work out. I’m slowly learning to accept that. For now, I’m incredibly proud of this workout, and if you’re interested in hearing more or following along this journey, stay tuned because tomorrow I’ll have my weigh-in and more!

2019 Resolutions: I’m coming for ya!

Sure, I failed my 2018 resolutions and I’m sure I’ll fail with my 2019 goals, but at least I can say I’ve made an effort to change and do better. That’s better than being unhappy as a stick in the mud, with no drive or will to improve whatsoever, right?

Just like last year, I’m giving you the list, and then getting in depth below:

  1. Lose 30 pounds (which would put me at around 120)
  2. Record 3 total videos each week (one per channel)
  3. Read 50 books – trades and graphic novels included
  4. Make a task list every. single. day!

Four goals, not too difficult, right? Well, we’ll see. Now, to the nitty gritty.

FIRST GOAL: Lose 30 pounds

I’m in the 150 range, so I think 30 would be a healthy amount to lose to get me to a starting point where I can start focusing solely on strength and muscle building. My current state of chronic pain doesn’t allow me to do much weight training as I’d like. Every time I want to dive back into lifting, I get a few days in, a couple of weeks if I’m lucky, and then my body starts reverting into that “hell no, you need to rest for a month” stage, which causes me to slip into depressive, though functional, states.

I should be meeting with a doctor this month, so my intention is to bring up my goal of losing 30 pounds and see if there should be any adjustments to that. If there is, I’ll update you guys. If not… I’ll still update you guys as often as my butt can get on here. Clearly, that is a challenge.

SECOND GOAL: Record 3 videos per week (one per channel)

This one will be met with some friction, I already know. I take a long time to edit even just a 10 minute video because I have an entire house to keep clean, 3 kids to keep happy, well-mannered, and healthy, and having a social media presence is sort of required if I want my channels to grow. I’m hoping that with a goal of ONE video per channel instead of two per channel, it’ll give me a chance to focus on my home life, social media presence, and also work on the quality of my content, rather than me just trying to push out content for the sake of content. If that makes sense.

With the growth I’ve seen in the last two weeks on my discussion channel, I’ve purchased a new mic to increase the quality of the videos… for some reason my webcam’s mic just doesn’t pick up sound as well.

THIRD GOAL: Read 50 books – trades and graphic novels included

Last year, my reading goal was 25 books, which I exceeded by 3, if we’re just counting novels and not graphic novels, comics, novellas, etc. So why not double it and give myself a bit of a challenge.

Speaking of challenges, I want to incorporate the 2018 Read Harder challenge into this 50 book goal, which you can find here! Thanks to the overdrive and hoopla apps (and our frequent library trips), this could serve as a much more realistic, solid resolution.

FOURTH GOAL: Make a daily task list

I did this for months in 2018 and it helped me stay on top of our home, though I didn’t always get to everything. It tapered off in the summer, and started up again when we moved into our new house. I’m hoping to keep to a DAILY list this year, to maximize my productivity, and minimize my anxiety.

This year I’m hoping to throw caution to the wind and be unapologetically me, without worrying about the judgment of others because let’s be honest, not everyone has a goal to focus on. Let them eat cake and judge.

Let’s go, 2019!

Bridal Boot Camp: Check In #2

What a long week it’s been! We spent the better part of the week at the hotel and it was an amazing change of scenery. Sometimes it’s good to get away from the monotony of every day life for a little reset.

We went swimming every single day (and a couple of nights as well), and we made some friends – I’ll have a vlog up for you guys later, I recorded a lot of videos. Despite my husband having to work still, even he felt like this was a nice getaway – he invited his coworkers over to grill and swim with us. This little staycation gave us a taste of what it’ll be like at our new house!

Now to the progress/setbacks:

Despite being out of the house, I still wanted to get my workouts in and eat as close to my “diet” as possible. I took measurements on Monday and noticed how my body has stayed within an inch or two of what those measurements were, for a few months with very minor fluctuations. My most successful month this year has been January because of how restricted my diet was – I don’t mean I wasn’t allowed good food, but I definitely limited myself to no outside food (no chips, no fast food, no added sugar, etc.).

I got my juices in each day – though I completely forgot my Greek yogurt at home, so it wasn’t as thick and smoothie-like. The groovy thing about the hotel was that it was fully furnished – no, I mean, FULLY furnished! Microwave, blender, washing machine and dryer… everything! We managed to stock up the fridge with tons of goodies for everyone, including some salads that my husband picked up on the way back from work!

As for my workouts. I did a little bit of everything, but I wanted to focus on my midsection a little more than everything else – so while I still did some simple arm and leg work, I worked on strengthening my core, and some back stretches as well.

My overall loss in the past week has been 3 inches! I’m quite proud of myself, I must say! Most of the loss came from my legs, but 1/2 an inch was around my hips so I’m pleased with that.

My back pain hasn’t entirely improved – it was good and then Thursday it was just awful, and after coming back to the house, the first morning felt better and it’s been downhill, so I’m going to try really hard to do at least 10 minutes of yoga + stretching twice a day. Fingers crossed and if you have any suggestions, please comment below!

All in all, a successful week and I hope to see more of that this summer. Let’s get to it!

Bridal Boot Camp: Check In #1 (oops)

We’re on a roll – much later than expected, but hey, we’re working on it. I’ve finally managed to measure myself this month (it’s been a lot busier than I could’ve predicted, but the boys have been having a blast).

In this post I mentioned to you what my plans were with diet and exercise. Back pain is still pretty bad, but it’s at least steadying and not getting worse. My diet has been pretty good, I’ve lost a teensy bit around my belly, a bit of a stubborn fat area.

My thinking was that I would just eat whatever I wanted on Sundays, and the rest of the week would be straddling the line between strict and intuitive. Well, it turns out aside from the mimosas I had with one of my lovely friends (still not too shabby), I ate intuitively! My stomach led me to say no to a bagel and cream cheese, but to have a strawberry kale smoothie instead. Dinner was hearty, but still pretty good all things considered!

I feel pretty confident with what this month can bring me, or what I can take from it, rather. I’m actually going to be taking a little vacation with the boys while the house is worked on, and I’m really excited for the change of scenery. We’re staying in the same city, but even still, it’s at least closer to civilization!

I’ll check in with you guys when I can and let’s hope for a groovy mini-vacay, and a spectacular, successful June!

Bridal Bootcamp: June Edition

Y’all ready for this

Get it? See what I did there?

No but seriously, I’ve got 5 months until I walk down the metaphorical aisle and I want to look as badass as humanly possible, which means it might be time for a little diet switch. I’ve hit a plateau and it is not settling with me very well. Why would it? It’s a flippin plateau! The further along in this journey we go, the more plateaus we hit, that’s just the reality we face.

Before I talk about my health and fitness plans for this month, I need to talk to you guys about something and maybe one of you can offer some advice: My back pain (which may be a workout injury, or a bad mattress, or a number of things that I can’t diagnose) has gotten worse. I no longer sit much during the day and if I do, I’m extremely self-conscious of my posture for fear of back spasms. I thought getting a new mattress might help things but I don’t think that’s going to help. So I’m definitely going to take it easy on my workouts this month, on the off chance that it’s workout-injury related.

TO THE PLANS!

My meal plans are going to stay the same with regards to calories, but instead of just blindly looking around for the least carbs/most protein noms that we have I’m going to be drinking a juice (of my creation, recipes to follow if I can manage that), a protein shake, a salad, and an intuitive meal for dinner.

My workouts will be light and include more yoga (well, yoga in general because my yoga has been so bloody limited). Fingers crossed, I’d love to tone up but right now I need to heal my rebellious back!

I’ll check in with you guys on Monday!

Monday Check-In

Another Monday is upon us, which is the day of checking in, measuring and setting up another challenge!

This past week was pretty good! I had an issue that I’m still working on; being snack happy! However, I made some strides in not snacking too much and my measurement chart shows it!

I lost almost two inches over all, though I definitely gained muscle as well which is fantastic! I had loss in my hips (which is where my fat is most stubborn) and my calves – my legs and butt are showing some muscle growth, but my arms have stayed the same (another stubborn fat area).

A non scale victory that I achieved this week was getting closer to being confident in a bikini! One of my resolutions this year is to confidently wear a bikini by summer. Technically it’s Spring, so I’ve got time but I didn’t wear a shirt at the pool this weekend and even though I was very aware of my body, I managed to do it!

My challenge for this week is to meet my hydration goal – which is to drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water each day. It’s getting hot here in the desert which means I need to be ON TOP of my water intake!!

I challenge you guys to meet your minimum water intake goal this week! Let’s make it a good week, folks!

Measure In Monday!!

Another week done, and it happens to be that time of the month – too much information, right? I know, but I’m a no-holds barred kind of person… seriously, I feel bad for my kids because they’re going to be get sooooooo embarrassed when they’re old enough to understand that emotion.

But I did a lot of strength training this week and my muscles are definitely growing! I’ve switched up my routine, so Mondays are now my “off days”. Thursdays and Sundays are cardio/ab days, Tuesdays and Saturdays are leg days, and Wednesdays and Fridays are arm days!

Sundays are my “5k” days, but I think I mentioned it before, and it turns out that it’s longer than 5k… it’s probably closer to 4 miles. My fiance and I had one of our “we really need a tv show for these kinds of moments” conversations and I’ve convinced him to go out running with me, which will make it easier to determine exactly how far, thereby making my 5k time a little more accurate lol

I’m working on making more vegan friendly snacks and meals – I’ll have a recipe up later this week with a really good one (especially if you like a little kick, like myself). I give vegans so much credit, because I definitely did not last and it’s only been 9 days! I thought No Junk January was so much easier than this!

One last thing, I don’t think I’ll be posting regular videos on any of my channels, because this wedding and my writing is taking up most of my time – summer is going to be a huge challenge as well with all of the kids, but it takes a village.

That’s all I’ve got for you guys so I’ll see you next time! Have an awesome week!

The Reason I’ve Been Away

I’m pretty terrible at maintaining this blog, but I still love it. The executive dysfunction tends to get a little crazy – don’t even talk to me about brain fog. But enough about my mental and commitment problems.

Something big and brand new happened. I got ENGAGED!

When people ask how long we’ve been together, I kind of don’t know how to answer that because we dated for so long before making things official – and I don’t remember the date we even made it official, but I DO remember when he first told me he loved me. May 8 2016!

So I’ve been all over pinterest, filling my brain with fun ideas. Homemade wands, book bouquets, donuts and Taco Bell, running gear!

I have this idea for my wedding dress, but I would really love to sculpt my shoulders for this particular dress, which might mean a switch in routine and diet. Point being, I’m going to be keeping you guys as updated as possible, but the wedding planning thing isn’t something I’ve ever really done before… at all. Neither has my significant other, but we’re pretty much on the same page with the ideas. If I fall even more off with my blogging, then I apologize greatly but… you know!

I hope you all have a great day and weekend and LIFE! Until next time!

February Progress!

I wrote an extensive blog post on tumblr about how I was feeling during this month. It’s a little convoluted but check it out if you’d like. To summarize: February has felt very disorganized and unfocused. I don’t feel like I accomplished as much as I thought I would and I think I was unprepared, but on the plus side I gained muscle and lost fat at a steady pace which is exactly what I wanted!

I had a few really good outdoor runs this month and I’ve decided that March’s fitness goals are going to be centered around running. March will also be centered around mental health!

I definitely did NOT follow my nutrition or fitness rules. I danced quite a bit and learned some fun booty moves, but I didn’t manage outdoor runs twice a week. I drank alcohol twice this month as well and went 6 out of the 7 first days without caffeine. Despite all that I still managed to have an overall loss.

  1. Running outside twice a week
  2. Dancing more
  3. Abs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
  1. No alcohol or beverages with calories
  2. No red meat
  3. Caffeine free the first seven days
  4. Eat fish twice a week

I’m proud to say that other than a mishap with a restaurant order, I stayed completely away from red meat! This transition is difficult, but definitely doable. Next month I’ll have a bit more in terms of what I can and can’t eat, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out what!

My morning back pain isn’t as bad these days either. I had to sleep with a pillow between my knees a couple times this month but other than that and just feeling stiff in the morning, it’s been improving! I also feel a bit stronger in my arms, which is fantastic! I badly want to have visibly muscular arms!

The first pic is from February 15th, the second was from a few days ago! All aboard the gain train, am I right?

Thus far, February hasn’t been 100%, but it’s nearly over and tomorrow is a new day, a new start! Get ready, guys. Tomorrow’s post should be a blast!

Measure In #4 | No Junk January

Gain this week: 1 3/4 inches

I ended up taking an impromptu but much needed rest week, due to a pull in one of my chest muscles and another in my hamstring. I had a liquid heavy diet, with saltines as well because it felt as though I had a sinus infection – and considering I’ve had a cold for over a month, I’m not too surprised. This happened when I was pregnant with my second son, and it was AWFUL!

Next week’s goal: Lose what I gained, plus 1/4 of an inch!

The week was all right, though not as physically productive due to my body needing a rest. I progressed a lot with my writing and have been writing down little ideas for recipes. Sunday I made a taco pie, which is a brand new one for me! I could barely eat any, but I’m happy to say the guys enjoyed it enough to finish the whole pan! I’m way backlogged on my recipes, but I’ll have extra time this week to take care of that.

That’s all the update I have for you guys, I’ll catch you later!
